Scope questions for .223
« on: September 03, 2005, 01:11:30 AM »
Hello, I am planning on getting a .223 and will be using it to shoot gophers out to about 250yards and I have two questions about scopes. First, how much magnification would I need, and secondly are the Bushnell Elite 4200 series scopes any good or would I be better off saving up and getting a Leupold VX-II. I am leaning towards the Bushnell as I would be able to afford a 24x or 32x scope but if I get a Leupold I could only afford an 18x scope. I have had good experience with Bushnell's cheaper scopes but never with their high magnification high end scopes and have no experience with any Leupold scope. Thanks in advance for your help.

I would go for the Bushnell Elite 4200 over the Leupold VX-II any day.  As for the power if you are wanting a higher power, than I would go with the 6-24x40 maybe in the 1/8 MOA dot.

in my opinion you can't compare any bushnell or any other brand scope (maybe swarovski or zeiss but then again they are 12 or 1300 dollar scopes)to a good leupold Vari-X III scope. sure its expensive but its also a scope that you will be passing down from generation to generation. i know that you dont wanna spend that much money on ur glass for your 223 Bryce and thats fine but if i were you i would.

It just feals kinda wierd spending almost twice the price of the gun on a scope. The gun I want to get is $770 and the 8.5-25 VX-III scope is $1350.

The cheapest I found it on the internet was $950us, I would want the one with the varmint hunter reticle which adds to the price. Does anyone know of a website that ships to canada that has the 8.5-25 with the varmint hunter reticle for less than $950?? I think if I can get one for that price I will go with the Leupold. My other question is, is the Savage .223 10FP-LE2A sniper rifle that I want to get worthy of a scope that good??
