Hi, guys I'm brand new to BP shootin and this Friday I have to make a decision on what pistol I'm to buy.   I've got my eye on a 5 1/2" Uberti 1858 New Army Remmie but I'm wondering what the difference on accuracy and velocity will be with the short barrel.  I'm also lookin at a Stainless Pietta 1858 8" from Cabela's but it actually costs more.  Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I've never run a chrony, but there doesn't seem to be any noticable differance from just shooting, maybe a little more muzzel climb with the short barrel version.  The Pietta's are pretty good, but for the money I'd prefere a Uberti.

Consider that a shorter barreled revolver also gives you a shorter loading lever.  Less leverage, less "feel" for seating a ball.   8)

Food for thought.
I have the Pietta in S.S.
Good revolver. Quite accurate, very tight, well made.
Uberti quaity is good to very good from what I read. Never owned one.
I have 6 Piettas, no complaints.
The velocity difference between 5 to 8" is insignificant really.
Black powder is that inefficient. Nature of the stuff.
The 5" is handy, looks good.
I actaully prefer the 8" but these are not serious hunting guns and certainly not home defense propositions.
They are for fun so by all means make yourself happy, have fun and come around, set a spell and make up some whoppers to share. :)

Thanks for the thoughts guys, and I welcome more.   I'm gonna take it to the line and decide on Friday.  Also depends on the ol' paycheck. :D
