The 9.3mm's are quite underated to my mind, although I do not have the cartridge you are asking about I do shoot the earlier version the 9.3x57mm. Mine is an old Husqvarna Model 46 from 1935.
Now the 9.3x57mm has surprised me with it's performance on the range, on paper it's slow but I have shot it from 100-300 yards and the drop was startlingly small. I was testing various loads and bullet weights. Bullets were :-
180 Grn swaged RN jacketed
193 Grn S&B flat Points
232 Grn Norma semi Pointed
246 Grn RWS Cone Point
270 Grn Speer semi spitzer
The first time with this selection on the range we were at 200 yards, scope was a 3x with a tri Post german reticle and using thesame point of aim all the bullets landed in a group of approx 4" then moving back to 300 yards the 286 Grn bullet dropped not surprisingly out of the bottom of the group and the what was surprising was that the rest all stayed in a group again but this time it opened up to about 6" and was oval in shape.
The 232 & 246 Grn bullets I am thinking sighted in at 200 yards would certainly do for 325 maybe 350 yards shots. I changed the scope for a Bushnell Scope Chief 3x that I picked up which has a normal X reticle and I am now playng with slight changes in powder and charge and then with seating depth on likely looking loads. Already I am getting reasonable hunting accuracy out of this old rifle but I am still looking for the MOA load, it's getting close but not quite there yet :roll:
The 9.3x62 you are asking about gives slightly better velocities than my old shorter cartridge however I certainly would not feel under-gunned for Elk or Moose :grin:
Fullstocks if fitted properly and bedded correctly are very accurate, I have a BSA CF2 Stutzen in 270 win which is a full stock and will shoot happily MOA and I have shot this rifle in a club competition out to 600 yards and won with it twice in the annual shoot before they changed the rules to ban it :roll:
The 9.3x62 is popular in Germany in a fullstock rifle for Wild Boar shooting and this combination was always offered in Mausers sporting rifle line up. It also has a good reputation on the Big Red Hirsche ( Red Stags) which can weigh 400lbs+ in central Europe. As for recoils ............ well my rifle is light weighing under 8lbs scoped and has a hard plastic like butt plate and it even fairly comfortable from the bench, from fiedl positions it's not much more than a 30-06 if it's more at all. Your 9.3x62 cartridge will produce slightly more recoils due to the higher velocity given but the longer cartridge, however I cannot see it being really worrisome for you. It's certainly nowhere near the bruiser fo the .458 Win Mag and I doubt it approaches the same as the 45/70 either both of which I have fired, heck the .458 with cast bullets feels about double the 9.3x57's recoil :eek:
