What is the minimum barrel length for a carbine to be legal?

What does the TCU stand for on some of these chamberings which are offered (i.e. 6mm TCU)?  How effective are they?

I'm glad I found GB - I'm learning a lot, just haven't found answers to these questions.  Thanks for your time and assistance.

Ramos1212,

The TCU stands for Ugalde--the inventor of the cartridges based on the 223 Remington case.  And the TC is, of course, Thompson Center.  Thus, the TCU name.  Ugalde came up with the 6mm, 6.5mm and the 7mm cartridges.  All have stood the test of time.  But I think there are better cartridges available now.  For just a bit more powder, the 7-30 Waters will out do the 7mm TCU in my opinion.

As far as the legal barrel lengths--I really don't know that one.  Good-luck...BCB

Barrel has to be at least 16" to be a rifle with a buttstock.
