deerfield recoil pad
« on: September 18, 2005, 07:24:36 AM »
Does anyone know of a recoil pad for a Deerfield that actually works?  I have tried several that have lengthened the stock some but are so hard that any recoil reduction is questionable.   Because of the shape of the butt the slip on pads are not an option.   After some experimenting I have worked up a Blue Dot load that is stiff enough to cycle the gun and is still pleasant to shoot.  This load feels about like factory Winchester or Mag Tech (240g) loads.  I know these loads will do the job on whitetail but when shooting some of my hotter loads I find myself shall we say anticipating ignition.  My wife enjoys shooting the factory loads but complained about the hand loads.    Because of her reaction to these loads I have practically lost the use of my 1894 .357.  Now this is getting serious! All my hand loads are well within acceptable limits.
