Whitetail Loads for 375 Jdj
« on: September 18, 2005, 04:06:32 PM »
Does anyone have a whitetail load for 375 jdj? Just got a ssk barrel from a friend of mine and thought I could save some time and powder if someone had one to pass around. Was looking for 220 flatpoint or 225 hornady spire pt. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time, slik 1 :D

Pretty much anything you pump out of that bad-boy will take out a whitetail.  I'd go for a ballistic tip or spire point flat base.  The flat base stabilizes a little better in the shorter ranges.

I have only had my 375 JDJ a few monthes but it shoots anything I have fed it so far.It shoots 200 gr sierras plenty good for deer hunting but the 220 and 270 gr bullets will group up much better. The 270 grain shoot the best but I can't see shooting a whitetail with a slug that big. The only powders I have tried are H-4895 and H-322,H-4895 works the best in my tube so far.

Why not go with the TC factory loading. That 220 at 2200 fps has been killing a number of deer out of the JDJ for many years.

I've been shooting crop damage deer (does) this fall with my 375 JDJ and am very pleased with how it drops them.

It goes:  BOOM....WOP...FLOP!

I'm loading 53 grains of AA 5250 under the 220 gr. Hornady flat point. (Standard disclaimers.  This is only 1 grain under the AA posted max load.)

Two longer range ones, 190 and 170 yards, didn't take a step after being hit in the front sholder.

Bloodshot isn't as bad as I thought it would be either.  Just a quarter sized exit wound.

I have talked with the people at sierra about the 200 gr sierras bullets.
they told me that they are to fragile for deer.  THat is to bad my barrel just loves them. they like almost as much the hornady 220 fp what should work very well for any deer
