"SitePro" - biggest POS (junk) product I ever boug
« on: August 27, 2005, 06:14:46 PM »
The "SitePro" crosshair illuminator, from Smith's Abrasives Inc., is the absolute worst hunting accessory I've ever purchased...PERIOD!

It's a device that mounts to the ocular bell of your rifle scope, and is supposed to illuminate your reticle for low light shooting. It just flat out didn't work!

In addition to not working, It proved to be quite cumbersome and totally screws up your scope's eye relief, causing you to get whacked in the eyebrow during recoil. It seemed like an inexpensive way to get an "illuminated reticle" on a conventional scope, but I guess you really do get what you pay for. Paid about $20.00 for it ...$20.00 WASTED.

Here's a picture if you're not familiar with this device:

I understand that this product is no longer being manufactured...and for good reason! Don't be duped into buying one that may be leftover in a sports shop somewhere. If you need an illuminated reticle, you'd be much better off spending the money on a real illuminated scope like a Bushnell Firefly or Burris Electro-dot.

Interesting!  I like mine very much.  I shot 6 hogs one night a couple of years back usint a SitePro while down in S. Texas hunting.  Eye relief is not a problem with my 444S sporting a Leupold 3X9X40.  I do say that if one can afford it, a Burris Speed Dot 135 w/3MOA is great and a Mueller 3X9X40 Sport Dot is good also as I have both now.  If one two of those ever fail me I won't hesitate to put the SitePro back on as I always carry it in my backpack.

I will pay shipping if you want to send me yours.  Just a pm will do.

Sorry,
Threw it away long ago. Didn't see the point in keeping something that didn't work (at least for me). Glad to hear you had no problems w/ yours!

loaded4bear,

It took me a while to get it adjusted correctly.  I had to adjust the little fiber optic tube down to the bottom of the ocular bell and turn it waaaay down on brightness AND make sure it was allmost touching the lense.  While on a hog hunting trip in Texas in March I had it with me as a backup and one of the fellows didn't have anything lighted to hunt at night.  I loaned the Site Pro to him but he had an old Weaver on his rifle and the bell was too small for the Site Pro to adjust down to that size.  Anyhow I just may have lucked onto one of the better ones.  I was checking all my stuff for another hog hunt in S. Texas this coming Thur - Mon and the batteries were still working in the thing.
