Thinkin' about a handi in 30-30
« on: September 26, 2005, 12:07:03 AM »
I already have a 30-30 Win 94AE. But the want for a rifle is almost to much to bear!  I like the performance of the 30-30, and it seems from the posts here the 30-30 is hard to beat. Should I get results comparable to my Winny?I'm shooting 150 gr. coreloks and getting fantastic results! I'm wondering if it might be a little more accurate than my Win. I'm definitely going to get a very good scope for it! Well, I guess I just said I will end up getting one. How about that, I just talked my self in to gettin it. :)  :-D  :-D  I love it when a plan comes together. This disease is not curable! Is that good?

Tommyo1 I think every body should have 30-30 handi :-D
Plus a bunch of other calibers, Like a 204 or 223 or 22-250,
Then go on up. Handi -holic is a disease that un curable.
 Good Luck  Marv,

I have the 223 with a 4x12x40 and I call that my fun gun. It's shooting under 1/4 inch at 100yds and 1/2 at 200 yds. Accuracy is fantastic :toast:
I just wished that I had got into these rifles and shotguns a little while ago.

Tommy01:

They are all fun guns... :)

The 30-30 is a good one...so is the 45-70...they are 2 of the best...but don't discount the other calibers as well...they can be just as fun when you have them shooting good... :D

Well that was my plan, to have a 30-30 handi and a 22 hornet too, but like always I'm a day late and a dollar short. They're out of 22" hornet barrels. All they have are the thin 20" barrels. They have plenty of 30-30 barrels, but I'd rather not send my receiver twice. So here's my problem, send it and get the skinny hornet and 30-30 barrel, or wait who knows how long on the regular hornet barrel? :?  Anybody out there got the skinny hornet barrel? If so, how's it shoot? Thanks ahead of time. 8)

OK, how about a 30-30 barrel and a .357 Mag barrel. Leave the .357 Mag as it is and shoot .38 Specials, .357 Mags and .360 Dan Wessons out of it or work a deal with Krochus and borrow/rent the reamer he is going to get to turn his .357Mag barrel into a .35 Remington!!!
Of course you could get either a 30-06 Comp or .270 Comp barrel instead of (or in addittion to), the .357Mag barrel to go along with your 30-30 barrel.
There is always a Tracker 1, yes I said Tracker 1, instead of Tracker II barrel in either 12 or 20 gauge. So many choices, some little $ and time....<><.... :-D

My 30-30 receiver is in a priority mail video tape box, along with a barrel sale order for nine barrels, including two 357s. Heading for the post office at lunch hour. I can Max one barrel, then either keep the other one stock or rent a Whelen reamer, or maybe make a 35-280AI, I've got the 280AI reamer already. How hard is it to expand a 7mm neck to 357/358?

Is 357 a standard item again, or are they supposed to be gone for good when the current batch is used up? I figured I'd get while the gettin' was good.

There out of hornet barrels, dog gone it sent mine in for a 25-06 & a 22 hornet. I'll have to call, if the wait includes an extractor I'll leave it there. The hornet is going to be a fun gun & reloading is the only way to go.

I have a ultra light 22 hornet & it shoots good it is my sons, it does so well I wanted one too  but the full 22in std barrel
That's my boy, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

Not completely just the 22" barrels. Heck if the SL barrel of your son's shoots that good, and it's bound to be lighter, what the heck. A shorter, lighter Handi, I may just get the SL hornet barrel, Thanks.  :D

Unless you have a super light fore end there is a large gap between the barrel & foreend. Also the scope rail sits alot higher off the barrel. I filled this in with epoxy (black) so the rail is in contact with the barrel the whole way. Job turned out ok but could have looked better (may have to sand the epoxy smooth), had to use 2 o-rings to float the barrel due to the superlight  barrel contour. He was happy to have a centerfire sniper, as he calls it. Now he shoots a 30-30 too, down loaded 125-130 gr bullet at 2000 fps(off a rest). nice when a plan comes together

Yep, that's what the person at customer service told me, and that they would use a s/l forend on that barrel if I wanted the barrel. I called back another time and spoke with Gordon, asked him how long on the 22" hornet barrels? He said he was expecting them anytime, "could be any day" is what he told me. The lady I spoke to first told be it could be ''a couple of months." I'll give it a couple of weeks and give them another call to see if they're in, and if they are you'll get a p/m from me a.s.a.p. 8)

Well I like the idea of being able to shoot pointy boolits in a 30-30, and I've never been fond of leverguns. I have a Marlin 1894, bought it years ago when it was on sale for 89 bucks, new. That should tell you how long ago it's been. Still got it, never carry it. Long been in love with single shots, back when the Ruger #1 came out they were less than 400 bucks but I couldn't afford one. Had to settle for Ruger and Remington bolt guns for around 200 bucks. Then outta the blue my wife buys me a little single shot 45-70 about 10 years ago for Christmas. 8) Now I love my Handis, still love to have a #1 but wouldn't pay the difference.  :D

Yep, I suppose that's why they make 'different' kinds for 'different' people. 8) :D Personally I don't worry about speed unless I was after something that might get after me if I didn't do my job with my first shot. 8)
