Just back from the range after finally having time to sight in my .500 and WOW does that thing thump. I only had some Winchester 400g "platinum tip" 400gHP factory loads available and these were rough! I have 45-70 +P+++! loads that I shoot occasionally (56g 4198 300g JHP) and this thing was much more brutal. Way more than I expected. I dont know if they used a case full of H110 or what but it was an extremly fast recoil. I could only manage 10 rounds and I have a headache now. I managed to get it sighted and then fire one group that went into about 1.5" at 50 yards. The only thing I have done to this gun is ghange out the rear sight to a williams peep mounted a little further back. Longer sight radius and I can see it better.

I bet it does go Thump

...you can look at these 5500 S&W Specials...http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=531566...they might be a little easier on the shoulder for ya...1350 fps as compared to 1800fps...

Yes sir, it does go thump. If thats what you want to call it.It's quite a suprise what kind if recoil you get from a pistol round. You would think that it would be more mild. It seems to me that it's more of a crack than a push but the recoil is present.

I was looking at pistols chambered for that round and I think "Crap that's a big gun". BIG GUN! :twisted:

They got to be...it's a SAMMI rated cartride at 60,000PSI cartridge.......which tells me just what the Handi can be chambered to with that size case head :eek: the 500 S&W head above the rim is .526".....and the 45-70 is .504"....the 500 holds 63 grains water....and the 45-70 holds 72 grains...Hmmmmmmmm this gives me a bunch of food for thought.....this really by all ways of looking at it...isn't really a pistol cartridge...it's a rifle cartridge...
