Can someone tell me what a savage 99M is  i just got this rifle but its not in my hands yet a friend has got it and i will probibl y get it next month, its a 308 winchester serial # 1144856 monte carlo stock with check piece Its also stamped Westfield, Mass. Its also rotary not a clip .

The subject on the Savage Model M came up about a year ago and should you care to try, you can see for yourself that in fact, there is no such animal.  Now don't get your britches in a bunch..........there's an answer to all this found in Murray's book "The Ninety-Nine" A History of the Savage Model 99 Rifle, revised 3rd Edition.

On pages 3-70 and 71 is the description and photos of the model DE for Deluxe Edition w/ monte carlo style stock introduced in 1965, and discontinued in 1970.  No one knows why the factory called/labeled them model "M" but it is believed to have indicated Monte Carlo buttstock.  Model Designation....some were marked Model 99M on frame ring or barrel right-hand side.

     99 appreciator the answer is yes. In fact i had my 99R .300 out for a
     cleaning yesterday.  If you have a 99 or more in your(anybody) gun collection  you are in high cotton. Guys that own-um know what i mean.

My 99f, 1955...sleeps nicely in it's leather and fleece sheath under my bed. My wife knows how careful she must be with the vacuum, trying hard not to understand anymore. She does know that there is a very real possibility, that it's 37th shot will be into a fine buck. A subsequent bottle of bubbly that evening, as I admire the classic lines of the 99 juxtaposed to the fire, only adds to the ambiance. Don't you love those Jewish girls from Long Island!!!

I have owned a 99 M rifle. It indeed had a replaced bishop monte carlo stock and a revolving 5 shot magazine. It had the M stamped on the receiver by the D stamping. Regrettably I had to let the rifle go to a new home but it was accurate and had a good trigger and the action was strong and dependable. Regards
