SPRING BREAK
« on: September 25, 2005, 10:09:04 AM »
To give you a little background, I am thirteen years old and have been shooting Smallbore Silhouette for four years.  I am AAA in both classes and won Sub-junior in both classes at the 2005 Winnsboro Southern Nationals.  My Dad will drive me almost anywhere to shoot silhouette, but I have a problem.  I cannot go to the other big matchs(Jacksonville in April, Arkansas in September, Kentucky in October) because I cannot skip school to drive that far.  If I miss too many days of school, my school severely penalizes me.  Would someone switch a big match to the middle of Spring Break week(March 13-17, 2006 for example) or start a big match that week every year?  The Smallbore Prone shooters have the Western Wildcats 6400 Championships in the middle of Spring Break week every year in Phoenix, AZ.  They have it in the middle of the week so shooters can use the beginning and end of the week to drive long distances and it is very successful.  Why can't Smallbore Silhouette shooters do the same thing?

Thanks!
Joel

Joel,    Sadly, I think you will find the biggest reason for not holding a match of any size at that time of year is weather. There is just to much chance of bad weather east of the Mississippi at that time of the year. I've lived up and down the east coast and you could have a big match ruined by rain or snow in March. Don't know about west of the river, never lived out there except for a little while in CA. Up here in PA We don't even get all of our matches restarted until the end of April and into May because it is to damned cold.
