460 S&W
« on: September 28, 2005, 01:29:02 PM »
Interesting day at range today. Went to sight in my 15" Encore 460 S&W with new Simmons 4X scope. Due to 40 to 50 MPH winds today, jujst shot at 25 yards. My 45 Long Colt Corbon 300 grain +P and 454 Casull 300 JSP shot to the same point of aim. My 460 Corbon 200 grain XPB spitzer  shot 8" below them. I thot maybe the scope blew,  but fired a 3 shot group with the 460's and then tried the 45 Colt and Casull loads again and they were right on. I guess I need a ballistic table for the 460 huh?

I noticed the same thing when I shot 45 L/C and 454 Casull's.  That is why I decited to only shoot 460 Mags in my S&W460.  Too much of a velocity difference to get all three to shoot to the same point of aim.  :D

Thanks Redhawk1, will shoot at 100 and decide which load to use for deer season. Did you notice much difference in recoil between the 454 and 460? Seemed pretty close to me, both were "stout". :)

I just notice more flash with the 460. Recoil is very close.  :D
