Before I load my muzzleloader for the season, I run a patch to remove the bore butter in the barrel. When I use bore butter on a sabot, I just put a little on the outside of the skirt, not were it contacts the powder. I have had a muzzleloader loaded in my gun safe, (NO PRIMER IN GUN) for several months and when I go to the range and fired it, it went off as if I just loaded it. Also a side note, I install a red-dot over my barrel indicating a loaded muzzleloader. It blows off when I shoot.

I have been using bore butter for ears and always store my black powder guns with a film in the barrel. It helps in deterring rust.

The reason for bore butter on the skirt of the sabot is for ease of loading a tight sabot and I feel it softens up the fouling from the shot for the aid of a quick second load. Seems to work for me.  :D

I've used Bore Butter with lead and have been happy with the results.

I never thought to try it with sabots, but I will now.

Thanks Redhawk1.

Some people do not like bore butter, but it works for me.  I have been using it for years and never had an ignition problem and my BP guns always smell sweet.  :D

I use it on my patches for roundballs and for maxiballs. Love the stuff, won`t use anything else. Jack.

I bought my SS Encore 209x.50 a year ago and had questions about bore butter.  A friends owners manual talked about using bore butter and mine had no reference to it.  I called T/C tech support and they told me NOT to use bore butter with power belts or sabbot bullets.  They said the bore butter made the barrel to slippery and the plastic wouldn't grip the rifling well enough to get the proper spin required for good accuracy.

I'd highly recommend calling them and hearing it first hand.

I have not had an accuracy problem with it, how much more first hand is that?   :D

Bore Butter
I don't use it to protect the bore in storage, after reading some ot the tests out there.  But  this spring I did "borrow" Redhawk1's idea on lubing sabots with a thin film  , and makes loading and the follow up shot easier.  Sometimes when I close my mouth and open my ears I learn something.
Thanks Redhawk1.

p.s.  T/C told me not to do it either, but their &^%$ gun is so hard to load, I tried it and have had success at the range all summer.

Glad I could help. I still use bore butter and think I always will.  :D

I use the Bore Butter cleaning patches after every shot - I run that patch down the barrel and it makes loading a lot easier.  No problems to date.

I started using bore butter this year. After a cleaning session I run a patch with bore butter on it down the barrel several times. I find my first round always loads much easier now, and so do follow up shots. I use to be able to get only a couple shots off before the crud ring got to bad. I've found the bore butter has helped to extend the time needed before I have to run a cleaning patch down the barrel. It didn't eliminate the crud ring, but it certainly extended the amount of shots I can take now.

I run a T/C cleaning patch which contains bore butter down the barrel after each shot at the range.  It doesn't seem to be impacting the accuracy - is this not a good idea?

If you are not having a problem, keep doing it. No different then butting bore butter on the skirt of the sabot.  :D
