help....have never had such a problem with mounting a scope....i bought my son a 243 this spring...he is 9......he shoots the iron sight well out to 50 yds.......maybe a little farther but i am going to get him 1 under 60..........he wants a scope.....i tried a red dot since he would be shooting short range but the slots in the weaver mount did not match up with the slots on the red dot....1  bolt on the red dot is adjustable....no go.....went to scope.....put on a shot gun scope (tried) since this is a small rifle...no go......1 inch part of scope is too short........oh well i took the scope off of my muzzle loader........lines up good because this is a long scope12-13 inches long but guess what?....the bell of the scope hits the hammmer and the scope doesnt go all the way down because of the hammer!!!!these are high mounts also.........i guesss this sat he will have to use the iron sights....any help would be appreciated.....thanks mack

Is the base a Weaver #82 or the H&R base? The H&R base has more cross slots, but it's not hard to add a cross slot to either with a file or a dremel. High rings should work fine, I use mediums on most of mine, just depends on the ocular bell/power ring size and position.

From H&R, where else!!    It's on the accessory barrel list and in the store....They offer 2, the standard and the Ultra which is an inch longer. Both H&R bases have a rear slot that is much closer to the rear of the rail than the Weaver rail. I haven't used a dremel, used a file on the Weaver several times though, others have used the dremel using the small burr, IIRC.
