New Barrel

Got my new 30-06 barrel to replace for the one that was stolen.  Those folks ar NEF/H&R really do a great job.  I installed a Bushnell Elite 4X12 scope, till I can afford another Shepard.  Took it to the range this morning.  Got it sighted in OK with the loads from the old barrel.  Think I may eventually need to tweak the loads just a little, missed some of the 4" clay targets at 300 yards.  I missed 3 out of 10 times.  I'm going to shoot it a while first and see if it don't improve with use.  My goal is 10 out of 10, at 300 yards, just like with the old barrel.  That should make me good out to 500 yards, for wolves and Caribou.  Still got a Caribou tag to fill, and will try again in October, after snow flies.

Just came in from three weeks at my friends cabin.  Got one wolf and missed one.  Also got a Black Bear.  Unfortunately did not have my Handi back when I went out, so I had to use something else.  It was still a single shot.

Sounds like you got a shooter. I wish there was a 300 yard range around here. I'd like to practice with my 22-250. 200 yards is the max range. So i guess when i get a chance to go i'm gonna have to settle for that yardage.

I spent three weeks at a cabin near the river crossing.  I seen everyone that came back across the river.  In the first week there was three cows killed.  On the second week there was two spike, fork, bulls and a 36" with four browtines.  The third week there was a 43" bull killed with five browtines.  This is the slowest I have ever seen in this area.  I think taking 601 cows out of this area last winter had a dramatic affect on this area.
