Tech Force 99M Mainspring broken
« on: August 08, 2005, 12:29:48 PM »
Yep, Received the gun on May 12th, put what I estimate 1500 pellets through the gun.  Mainspring broke on Friday, but took the gun out of the stock today and retrieved 2 pieces of one coil of mainspring........So, 90 day warranty at Compasseco, what say ya'll?  Return, or send to Charlie the Tuna for a tune?

You fellows that have bought them recently, shoot the heck out of them before the warranty expires

If you send it for warranty work, what do you think they'll put in it? The same sort of POS spring and guide that broke once already. Just because those springs have JMs name attached to them don't think they won't break. Theres a lot more to preventing spring failure than using a name to sell the part. If the spring is highly stressed or used at full compression, has bad fitting guides and/or the piston seal isn't sized right, you end up with a broken spring in short order. Send the gun for a decent replacement, don't waste your time with the factory junk parts.

I'll tell you something about Compasseco's service.  Last year I bought from 'em a BSA Hornet for $560 plus a Scope and mounts totalling $702.16  pre-paid in full with a USPS money order.  The gun arrived with a defective cocking mechanism, so it didn't cock, and the scope mount was not the one I asked for when ordered on the phone, it just didn't fit the gun.  So I call 'em inmediately, pack the gun and mount, and shipped back to them that same day for an exchange.  They make me wait an extra month before they actually shipped the replacement items, telling me during the first two weeks that they were testing the returned gun, and then a couple more weeks telling me they didn't have another Hornet in stock, but during those same days they shipped a new Hornet to a friend of mine.  The replacing mount cost $23 less than what I paid and they didn't refund it, just print on the new invoice 'Due to Customer  $23.00'.  That was not my first order with them because just 6 months before I bought an IZH46M, but could be my last.  This year I have already spent over $6000 on airguns and accessories, but Compasseco have not get a single penny of my business and will never again as long as I may find the wanted goods elsewhere.

How did my mainspring break...???  That's a good question......The gun wouldn't cock.  The bolt would get hung, and I'd have to "over" cock it to release the bolt and get the cocking lever back down.

I took the gun out of the stock and pins and such started falling out of the gun.....I almost never got the thing back togather........I got half a twist of mainspring to fall out of the gun, and yesterday, took it out of the stock and got another half a twist of mainspring to fall out........

I think I'm going to call Campsecco and talk to them......I don't really want to spend the money for a tune up yet, as I'm still not working........

No doubt, a Charlie tuna tune would help things, but watching the saving account fall every day is scary.........

Edit:  Called Campsecco and spoke with Richard.  Had a pleasant conversation with him.  Got an RMA to return the gun for repair.  Richard said the turn around time should be a few days........All indications are that they will stand behind the product.  So far, I'm very happy with the customer service......

I don't care what make of air gun(or any firearm for that matter) it is if it breaks while still under warrantee I would have been in touch with the company long before asking that question here.  Lawdog

VicC......yep....seems smooth cocking. Recoil seems less but speed seems a little less, too. Yep, I would say recoil is less and less boinnng to the recoil. I think I'm the clover now if this gun stays together.

...........................TM7

When you get a rifle back from having a tune up they are so much smoother shooting and cocking that they do seem less powerful.  Only thing is the chronograph tells the true story.  Every time I have had it done there has been an increase in velocity.  Could be what’s going on with yours.  Lawdog

Lawdog, are you suggesting that the gun will get a tune while it's in for repair?  Just checked the UPS tracking number, Compesseco got the gun on the Aug. 16th........

No what I am saying is that the velocity that TM7 was less may be the same.  From what TM7 had to say his seems to be smoother cocking and such which is one of the benefits you get from a tune-up.  Lawdog

I'd much rather have reliability and accuracy than maximum velocity......now if all were to happen then that would be fine!

And you have been in contact with Compasseco, Inc. every week(I would be) so what do they have to say about taking so long?  Lawdog

When I said stay in contact with Compasseco, Inc. I should have said by phone.  Compasseco, Inc. has a small office staff(at one time there were only 4 women working there to handle everything).  Registered letters they pay attention to.  Phone calls they pay attention to.  E-mails are easily forgotten or deleted, especially when one is busy.  By the way use the toll free ordering number.  They don’t put you on hold or hang up on you quite so often.  That is what I do.  Lawdog

I called Campasseco a couple of days ago.......they told me the gun was shipping that day.....it was on the front porch when I got home from work.......Sent in Aug 12th....arrived Aug. 16th......returned on Sept. 30th.............Not quite the turn around I was hoping for but glad to have it back........Might cock a little smoother than before, but I can't tell a whole lot of difference.....still shoots hard.........

I'm thinking that Campasseo must be backed up a few weeks, and if anyone else is waiting on a gun a phone call seems to get things moving again.......I'm a patient fellow...........and was plesant with my inquiry......I had the gun 2 days after the phone call........ :)  :yeah:

Your right, the turn around time really wasn't that bad......the e-mail I got from them to verify receipt of the gun said to expect a return in 3 to 5 days.....which wound up being 3 to 6 weeks............I do expect them to say what they mean, and do what they say.............It's not a big deal with me and I would not hesitate to buy another gun from Compasseco........my rifle broke a day or so before the warranty expired......and they honored the warranty with no questions asked.........they answer the phone when called, and are very pleasant to talk to........never put on hold, no press 1 for english, press 2 for blah...blah....blah.... etc.......the company seems to be on the right path, or at least that's my impression.........

Like I say, the only real gripe is the fact that I was told in writing the turn around time would be days, not weeks......now had they told me up front to expect 4 to 6 weeks I wouldn't have said a word about it.......

The point I'm trying to make is I do think I would have gotten it back much sooner had I called them.......Seems the dog that barks the loudest gets fed first.

I haven't shot the gun much in the past couple of days, maybe 50 rounds or so............all seems to be fine at this point.......
