32 H&R Mag Contender barrels
« on: October 06, 2005, 02:17:40 AM »
I recently traded into a 32 H&R Mag barrel. Don't really need it so was going to trade it to a friend. HE only wants it if you can use 30 cal bullets. Can anybody tell me for sure what the bore is on these barrels. For some reason I thought TC made them for 308 bullets but when I look in the reloading manuals they only list .312 bullets. Any help would be appreciated.

TIA,

Bill R.

While I do not own one or have experience with them...

The following manuals state (concerning the 32 H&R mag):

Sierra - "T/C wisely chose to equip their Contenders with .308" groove diameter barrels"

Lyman - "Contender barrels chambered for this cartridge use a smaller than normal groove diameter of 0.308 inch."

There's two sources for you  :-)

I had one Contender 32 H&R Mag in the past, and it was setup for 308 bullets.  The same with the 32-20 Contender barrels.

The TC barrels are a .308 bore.  You can shoot bullets from 308-312 safely in them.  I have two.  Very accurate.
