High Standard Sentinel Revolver
« on: November 29, 2005, 03:55:49 PM »
What a neat gift. I gave it to my father in 1967 as a Christmas gift. I bought it for $13.50 while I was in college. It was used at that time. I bet dad has not shot 50 rounds through it in the last 38 years. It is a nine shot revolver. I had no interest in guns back then. I have developed a great interest since then and I very proud to own this gun. Any comments would be appreciated.

I inherited a 4" model from my father, purchased ca. 1965.  It is in fine shape and still shoots well.  I've fired thousands of rounds through it without an issue.  Great little shooter, and the alloy frame has held up just fine.

:D  Just did a detailed cleaning on my dad's sentinel. He's had that thing since before I was born. It had developed a big rust pit where the cylinder stop meets the cylinder. A little steel wool and a lot of oil did the trick. First handgun I ever shot. Been obsessed ever since! :-D
Still a great shooter. Just HAD to take it out to the range while it was in my care. My 9 yr old son likes it just fine, too!

Best,
Mike

I've got two,no three...well a few of them used sentinels in 3 and 4" and think they're swell for casual plinking or trail gun or teaching the kids to shoot.

I have one of the Sentinel Snubs, with the 2 3/8 inch barrel and birds-head grip. With the alloy frame it is a joy to carry all day in my jacket packet. Great for dispatching wounded big game. I even catch myself stuffing it into my back pocket when the wife and I go for a walk, where I used to alway carry something a lot heavier. I love all my High Standards.

High Standard went out of business in (I believe) the late 1980's. The Sentinel in .22 rimfire  fixed sights sold (list price) in 1983 for $230, and with adjustable sights for $250. They were quality revolvers, well designed, and priced just a little below Smith and Wesson revolvers.

There are a lot of them out there, most still working just fine.
