light strike ?
« on: September 28, 2005, 01:30:34 PM »
I just had a fun day at the range. Decided to sightin a 204 and a 7mm rem mag for my encore. Bore sighted both before going out. The 204 didn't take too long to get nice groups. The 7mm was a different story, was all over the place with 165 ferderals. Duhh fogotr to tighten the scope so she was just floating all over.

my question is with the 7mm the first strike would not strike the primer at all the second would ?? what could that be. No problem with the 204 on the same frame soo ???

Are these factory loads or reloads? If reloads are they full length sized or neck sized? If they are neck sized I would say you are not setting the shoulder back far enough and the action is not closing properly. In my opinion that is the number one cause of miss-fires and light strikes. If they are factory loads then maybe you have a short chamber. Are these new barrels or is this just a new problem with barrels you have shot before?   KN

I forgot to add, If the 7mm barrel is a new barrel, the locking lugs may not be engaging deep enough to clear the safety. KN

Factory barrel not new. Didn't do this before. Shooting factory loads right now. That what's got me wondering why. Same barrel same frame same batch of rounds ? The only difference is, I switched barrels and that's when I got the light strikes and only with the 7mm barrel not the other.
