« on: September 30, 2005, 10:14:24 AM »
LEE dies 45-70 part number # 90561
I called lee on a question ,but  I would like to ask the question here on the forum. The factory dies do they come with a neck expander plug in the set .
I know I will have to purchase a powder compression plug, but do I also have to purchase an extra Neck expander also in .457 @.458
My next question is on the brass what is the difference between let say
Winchester,Remington,or I think it called STARLINE :D

I am not sure of the item number of my set of dies, but mine are about 10 yrs old. I have the expander die in the set. I did NOT need to purchace it seperate.

Brass from different mfgs is different only slightly. My preferance for new brass for the 45-70 is Federal. I use it exclusively for my heavy 45-70 loads. For fun stuff like cowboy loads I use W-W brass. I use Remington for my Handi' s hunting loads. ONLY so I know at a glance what the load is for/from. I have found Remington to be the softest brass and Federals to be the strongest.

Good luck,
 CW

Lonewolf, I'm using that die set, it works well, but I also use the Lyman "M" die for neck expanding and belling and it works fantastic, I highly recommend it. The Lee factory crimp die works extremely well, also.
