17 High Standard Why???????
« on: March 07, 2003, 06:08:43 PM »
There seems to be a bit of excitement on some of the other forums (and this one) about a round being put out by High Standard and made by Aquila that is a 17 rimfire based on the 22 LR case just like Hornady did on the 22 mag case. It is called the 17 High Standard I guess, but have heard it called the 17 aquila. This round is supposed to have a velocity of somewhere's around 1850 I do not remember the exact velocity but it was around the mid 1800's My question is WHY??? This round would be no faster than a slower 22 mag and not as powerful also it would not be much faster than the hyper 22 lr rounds. Shells I have read will cost 7 to 8 bucks a box but I have seen a quote of 5 bucks a box. High standard is supposed to make guns and replacement barrels for this round. I myself cannot see it competing with the other 17 and 22 mag to become a popular and viable round and do not see it becomming as popular as the other 17 expeccially if only High Standard is making the guns and barrels. Just their way of trying to get on the 17 bandwagon but I feel they will fall off of this one. I do not see where they dan compete against the other 17 and the other 22's I could be wrong on this one I was on the other 17 but I think this one will sink. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

I couldn't agree more!!! I love my 17 HMR but I see no use for this new 17 at all. It can't do any thing a 22 mag can't. Seems like somebodys trying to capitalize on the 17 frenzie. I see this one going down the toilet.  KN
