Just bot my first T\C contender frame. I also bot a 17hmr 14" barrel to whack any remaining groundhogs before they go into hibernation for the winter. (I mounted a scope I had "lyin around").
A few question about this frame that maybe you can help me with.
This serial # is 147, and change. So it's the model that has the pivot point up front. I dis-assembled the frame to clean it (something the previous owner was un-aware of--the word "clean") and noticed a few things:
1--There are "peen" marks where the hammer has hit the frame, caused by the center\rim switch being placed in "safe" and the hammer cocked and then pulled. Is there a way to sand\blue or fix this eyesore?
2--When I pulled out the trigger housing, I noticed----lets call it a "bananna curved" piece still in the frame. Now, I did not take out the other pin and drop the "innards" of the frame---cause I got no instructions and I really didn't want to blindly have tiny springs go flyin. But, this "bananna curved" piece appeared to be what resets the trigger during the opening of the frame, AND this piece seemed to be finnished by an Oger with a large axe. So, is it a good idea to attempt to drop this piece and polish it, and will this help smooth out the opening procedure?
One other note--there was one other frame I looked at prior to buying the one I got. The interesting thing was, it was a very early S\N frame, and it did not have a center fire\rim fire switch. When you pulled the trigger and the hammer dropped, it struck both center fire and rim fire pins. At least, that's what it appeard it was doing. Although I dont know how this would effect the brass on center fire for reloading. I opted not to buy that frame.
