Anschutz vs Cooper

I would be very interested  with anyone's opinion of Anschutz vs Cooper I want to hear it ALL Good Bad doesn't matter..... I am seriously contemplating both.

An Anschutz will shoot good.  Period.

I've heard good ans bad things about Cooper's.  Only good about Anschutz.

owned both.  shot both.  for way too many reasons, all of which have been delineated in this forum, i'll never own a cooper again.  i'll take Lucho's answer a step further.

Anschutz good.
works out of the box, goes bang every time.

Cooper bad.
bad quality control, even worse customer service.

I worked on Dave's  and other Hunter SB Coopers.  Dave is being diplomatic.  I've never seen more poorly cut chambers in any 22 rifle including the sub $200 chinese rifles.  And, the bolt parts looked like a drunk sailor made them with a file.

I just traded a 1710D KL for a Cooper 57M Classic. I have only fired the Cooper twice so far and most of that was off the bench testing ammo. With that being said, I can compare the two somewhat.
  My Annie had very heavy wood, and I had a hard time making Hunter class weight. That's one reason for the trade. The other is I've wanted a Cooper for a while. No weight problem with the Cooper. The Annie had a great trigger, as does the Cooper. The Annie trigger was a little more comfy perhaps for my finger.
  The Annie did have speratic ejection and oddly enough so does my Cooper.
  As far as craftsmanship, both are exceptionable. I am very pleased with the fit and finish on my Cooper. No machining marks at all. Seems like they did very good on the bedding also.
  With Wolf ammo both seem to group about the same. I will be doing further testing with the Cooper when more test ammo comes in. I have heard that if your Cooper will not shot or has any problems they will make it right. If needed, I guess I will find out.
 
Anzshutz has such a reputation that I don't believe anybody will topple them. In my opinion everyone else is racing for 2nd place. With that being said, I think Cooper is very close. With a lower retail, and being made in the USA, it is worth a try to me.
We'll see how it goes. But I would defentally own another Annie, and maybe some day I will (hmm........ a 1712 Silhouette would be nice   :wink:  ). But so far, I'm pleased with the Cooper.

I do know that there where problems with the Cooper M36 years back. Also, there where QC problems after Dan Cooper left the company. He's back now, and from what I hear and read the new 57M is liked by a lot of people.

thx for the info Bill. I too have always wanted a cooper. I have heard several bad reviews about them.. I have yet ti hear a bad report about any anschutz. I guess I would have to find the right gun to go for the cooper. I am shooting a CZ right now and this little critter shoots sooooooo much better then I can .....well......who knows I just might save the $$$$$ and stay with it. Time will tell. This CZ452 I have shoots consistantly under an inch ay 100m with federal gold medal match...

consistently under 1" @ 100m sounds like a keeper  to me. The Federal GM match, is that the 711B? They discontinued the Ultra Match, Right?

I will say the more I shoot my 57M Classic, the more I like it. If you get a chance to look at, or handle a new 57M you might could like it too   :wink:

Over the past 3 years I have owned what I consider to be 4 of the top end or at least top rated .22s the Cooper, Kimber HS, Anschutz 1712, and SAKO finnfire. My Cooper, amd Anschutz shot very well and close to each other in group size. HOWEVER, the Cooper fed poorly, ejected AWFUL, and the bolt would bind up if you did not place your hand in a kind of strange position to close it.  The Anschutz is as always perfect in all operating areas. Sold the Cooper after 3 months. I am looking at the Anschutz right now. Its a keeper.

The Kimber shot soooo badly that I demanded my money back from the dealer so loudly (with targets in hand) that they took it back and refunded my money. Worst shooting gun I have ever owned.

The finnfire is a gem. It is the best shooter of all by far! I have many sub .25 inch groups @ 50 yards with it. (4 dollar ammo) The stock is not as pretty but still nice, the ejection is the best by far, and the bolt is super slick. The trigger is nice but I think the Anschutz may be a little better. Its a keeper too

If I could only have one, SAKO for me. I do not know if mine is typical but it is awsome. If you can see it you can hit it and it does not mess up.

If I won a Kimber and a Cooper, I would weld them together and make a cool boat anchor.

Are you referring to a factory Sako barrel or the Lilja?

Both. My Factory light weight barrel shot as good as the heavier Lilja but the factory barrel was so light that the gun did not settle in on target like I wanted it to do. I tried the Lilja because I thought it would help me to be steadier offhand and I think it does but it does not shoot any better than the factory barrel. The Lilja also has the disadvantage of having such a tight chamber that the flat nosed Eley does not feed every time. I guess its true that for everything gained something is lost. The Lilja helped add some needed front end weight but at the expense of super easy feeding.

I have a light weight Sako put up for my son when he grows into it but that may be a while. I am weighting on another good scope so I can try it out on the bench.
