Remingtion/Spartan Shotguns?
« on: September 26, 2005, 07:47:06 AM »
I was thinking of picking up a 12ga side by side from Spartan.  Does anyone have one?  or any feed back on them?

I want to use it mainly for pheasant hunting and some clay pidgeon shooting.  I love side by sides, and I dont want to shoot out the old ones I have.

I'm thinking if you like the feel and quality of your old SxSs you're sure not gonna be happy with those boxy junkers. Won't never be one of them following me home. Take a look at the CZ Huglu's if you want a really nice lower priced SxS to be happy with.

I second your review; what a POS! Forcing cones super, super short; boxy, clunky, & heavy!

looked at alot of the affordable doubles,  all of them felt like low end crap.

like g.b. said,  cz imports doubles that feel nice.   they are a little more money than the "boxey junkers",  but feel and look like a quality gun.   hell,  i handled a skb 28 gauge, an aya 12, and then a cz ringneck in 28 all side by side comparison.  the skb was a very nice gun from what i could tell, and had the price tag to back that up.  the aya felt fine, too, but a bit more gauge than i was after.   the ringneck felt really good,  fit and finish were very nice,  metal seams were mated very well, no tool marks and wood to metal fit was nice.

i concluded that for the money,  the cz was indeed a good gun for the money.   so much so,  it followed me home.   i have had it out many six times now, and it carries like a dream.   also it is built on a true 28 gauge frame, which few others do.   i like it so much, i am considering another in over/ under; even though i dont need it.

Thanks everyone.  I guess I'll stick with my old guns for hunting, use my 870 for clays.

I have an old Ranger 16ga. side by side, and an old Sauer 12 ga.  Great handling, but both are probaby made in the 1930s.   I wanted to get a s/s that I could shoot high volume without worrying about wearing it out.  There is no better way to being a good shot than shooting skeet and trap with the guns you hunt with.  Maybey I'll take a loof at the CZ's.

Thanks for the input.  I guess i kind of knew it inside.

I was actually looking at one of these the other night.

I've got some kids that want to shoot trap, sporting & skeet in 4-H.

After handling it .... waaaay too heavy for the kids and the fit was very rough.  I think these are custom/proprietary choke tubes as well.

I did see and like the Khan Supreme's .... about the same price and uses std. verona interchoke tubes.  Very pretty guns, and inexpensive.  Fairly lightwight too  5lns for a 20ga and 7 for the 12.
