Replacing coilsprings?
« on: July 12, 2005, 02:52:38 AM »
I have been using some stock Duke 1.75's and #3's for 3 years now.  The springs are definately not as strong as they once wer.  I am messing around with beefer kits etc, seeing how i like a few before i make the $$ and time investments on 100+ traps.
Any of you used beefer kits or do you just replace springs??
Thanks

I just replace with music wire springs on the 2 coils. I've never 4 coiled any of my traps, and don't really see a reason......for my situation.

Tim,I sell way more music wire repacement springs, than I do 4 coil kits.
New springs make an awful big differance.

music wire springs are the way to go hands down.  way less work per trap and most trappers don't need 4 coils anyhow.

Tim,I will be at the Mo. convention. There isnt such a thing as a 1.75 music wire spring. They come in #11/2,#2,and #3,4.
As long as my spring prices dont escalate on me,I will have a convention special on them.

instead of buying 100+ traps, this season, replace the springs or 4 coil em and then buy a doz or 2 new traps that will replace your weakest traps. my bro and i like to replace bout a doz or so traps each year. with the old uns, we take em out of commission and do some serious work to em. we replace the springs, add the 4coil kit, and other minor adjustments. we then have traps that function like our new ones we just  bought.
we have been doing this for years, and each year we are able to extend out line with new and better( the old ones) traps.

just my 2 cents

Just put on new MW springs that outta do it. I was just doing some really old #1 CS 2 nights ago and after I finished, I was adjusting the night latch with my dremel and testing it. Well, my right finger got caught in that sucker and I actually had to put it on the ground to compress the springs. I had previously been "caught" by this trap and let me tell you, It hurt WAY more after the new springs LOLI couldn't escape. Still didn't leave a mark though.
