Pics of my Morter first cannon.

Finaly got it figured out,,,

loosly built off some of the stuff ive seen on the "net"
except i left my wall thickness thicker,

i havnt filled the pvc cap, so it just floats,
but i did lob it into my nieghbors yard, "badjohn"
it doesnt have much speed after about 15 feet,

someday ill fill one with thinset and try it out in a field.

How did you attach the trunion?


before i curved the back end, i drilled it out real close to the end maybe a 1/6 left,
then i turned a piece a little larger than the hole, came out from center an inch on iether side, turned the ends a little smaller,

put the thing on a 2X4 and punded the shaft into the hole,
its a real tight fit, took some beating,,,

probably not the right way, i shoulda heated the cannon and froze the shaft, but i was in a hurry,

Nice work, but I think you will find if you fire it with a heavy shot, it will tip over backwards.  Better to point the barrel toward the short end of the mount when firing.

Good clean-up on the links!

Great photography too!

You have a good eye for form and have followed through well - do you do much turning on a wood lathe?

I've still GOT TO copy it!

ill be making a nicer mount this comeing weekend, ive got some
laced oak from an old desk kicking around somewhere in the garage,

i saw a pic somewhere, of a mount with a "V" cut in the foreward end
with a pivit adjuster (dont know the right term)
and figured id copy his design somewhat,

You want to make sure the recoil thrust (which is along the bore axis) stays within the footprint of the mount or you risk overturning.

i used to be a finish carpenter, 28 yrs worth,, so ive done all the wood work,
ive got a wood lathe, havnt used it in years,
got a head injury, and they took my wood-tools away,
ive got permanant vertigo,,,,,
my mill and lathe is set up with a chair, and one of those kill-switches
like they use on snomobiles, so if i get dizzy, or pass out,,,,,
it kills the machine,
i tinker a few hours a day, then do the househubby thing,

dangerous,,yup,,but ive got to do something, i have to build things,
or ill go nuts,,

so ill build telescopes and cannons,
look at the stars, load the cannon,,,,seee stars,,,,,ha,,,,

if you want more pics let me know ill send them to you,

but i know nuthin, about cannons, so dont use my measurements,

i HATE stainless, thats why this piece was in my scrap pile for two years,
i wrecked four boring bars doing the inside,

and i hand filed the outside for hours, smoothing it all out,

i freehanded the toolpost around all my "cut steps" to get it round,
then filed,,filed,,filed,,,
wrecked my files too, this stuff is tough,,,

Nice lines, tough work, but a great finished piece, the tube that is. Can't wait to see what you come up with for a proper base. Definitely a piece to be proud of.
