Ruger GP100 DAO
« on: September 12, 2005, 06:08:02 AM »
Picked up a used GP100 DAO recently.  4" bbl, half legth shroud, fixed sights, exposed hammer with no spur.  Markings on side "C.A.I. GEORGIA VT."  This appears to be an import mark: Century Arms of Georgia, VT.
Anyone know any history on these GP's?  Foreign contract?  S/N appears to show that it was manufactured in 1990.
It has obviously been used quite a bit, mostly holster wear, but it should clean up nicely.  Any ideas if this gun could be converted to DA?

I have seen a few of those revolvers for sale in Gander Mountain, including the holster for around $300 and some change.  I did ask the person at the counter and he told me that those revolvers came from Canada (from one of their police groups).  My understanding is that you may be able to purchase a hammer for them from Ruger and convert them to DA/SA.  Not exactly sure if that's all you need to change it for DA/SA but right around that.

These guns can be had at southern ohio guns for $230, in stainless. I've heard it takes more than a hammer to change from dao, I believe the sear is also different.

Bad part is that Ruger DOES NOT sell parts to anyone....

Great gun though, and who really needs single action anyways.

My understanding is that these are Canadian police trade ins.  SOG has them also.
