Need some loads using 5744 for 45/70
« on: September 16, 2005, 07:55:44 AM »
I did a short search.  Didn't find what I was looking for.
I gotta go to work now to pay for this addiction.  Maybe someone here can help me out.

I am currently using AA2015 and Remington 405's with excellent results.  However, My shoulder has informed me that since my chances of running into Godzilla are vanishingly small, it would be advisable to make some lighter loads.

Can 5744 be used with the Remington 405 JSP bullet?  I'd like to get down into the 1300-1500fps range.  Anyone have any favorite loads with 5744 and the Remington 405?

Can AA2015 be downloaded to around 1500fps and still get good results?

I can get Laser Cast 405's but I have a lot of Remington 405's and I would like to use them instead of buying a different bullet style.

Thanks

27.0-28.0 with a 400gr. l.b.t.  " M" bullet  works well.

Zeke

AA 5744 is the only smokeless powder that I use, because of my 45-90 loadings.  Getting into the fall/winter months after the snow flys the outdoor range areas are sometimes not accessable.  I have an indoor range I go to that I'm a member of, so using BP is not desirable.

AA 5744 is most friendly to use and work loads up with.  You can find your data in either the standard or obsolete cartridge area.  I'm currently working on some JSP loading for this cartridge.  You will notice that in their data for the 45-90, they do not list any bullet loads for JSP's

Load Data Rifle

I have since spoken with the company, and have gotten a starting point for both the 300-gr, 350-gr and 405-gr JSP bullets.  They list these bullets for the 45-70 and the 45-120 loadings, but not for 45-90, 45-100 or 45-110.  I just had to find out why not?

I know your question was for the 45-70, but I just thought I would add this bit of information here.

Have a great one and good luck with your 45-70 loadings.
