I must know what low end hunting ammo H&R's tend to like most. I've been running in X-country and haven't had the time to develop my handloads right so my only option is to buy some cheaper factory sight my .308 at 50yrds and call it good. I have a box of Federal Power-Shok 150gr i thought i'd try. NEED to sight in because my Nikon failed and i put a Weaver El Paso in its place. Deer season starts Nov 5 for MN so if luck holds i'll get the last two saturdays of October.

I've had good luck with the Winchester Super X in the gray box. Use them in my 25-06 and 30-06.

You know how we all seem to have great luck with White Box Winchester in our .223's? Well I think I read here some place that Winchester has some inexpensive White Box out in .308 that may shoot great in Handi's....Anyone have any more info on this???....<><.... :grin:

super-x eh. I found a 50yrd target with holes from my .308 with merically 150gr Power-shok and it's tight enough group to work out to 100+yrds. i find Super-x and Power SHok usually almost equal.

I'll second the Winchester Super-X for affordable hunting ammo. Shoots pretty well in my 30-06 UltraComp. From what I have heard about about Mac's former 308 it shot them very well, and other members here too.
I love Federal ammo, but it's usually a little higher.
Strange, I have always seemed to have better luck with Winchester ammo than Remington Core-lokt's. Just a personal observation.

There's some fantastic ammo here to choose from...the best buy would be the GrandSlams...next up the Fusion...then the Supreme Silver Ballistic Tips...topping out with the fail safes...it's not plinking ammo..If you can..pick up a box or 2 and try them out...

Even the Winchester Super-X's aren't that cheap.
Wish I could get the 06's for that price...but hey more power too ya.

Federal Power-Shok 150gr Speer Grand Slam bullet ok i'll look for that at Gander Mt and other localy owned gun stores. When i bought the Pwr-shok i originally wanted Fusion but it seemed just over priced like $16 a box. How much do the Grand slam loaded rounds go for at stores? same as Midwayusa?

Your not going to find them at that price anywhere else..I've seen them for $24.00 on sale other places...up to $30 a box....and...by the way... which ammo seemed over priced...the power shocks? or the Fusion at $16.00 a box...The Fusion is good ammo...I haven't taken anything with it...but the reviews are pretty darn good...and it's very accurate...the bullets are more concintric than the Sierra Matchkings...

Say what about PMP 150gr SP rounds? they are like $10- and my Lee-Enfield liked them (.303 Brit) Dunham's got em'

I dunno. This bullet design thing is getting out of hand, to my way of thinking. Get the least expensive softpoint cartridges and see how they group. At 100 yards the deer won't know if they were killed with a super whiz-bang multi-partitioned bullet or an old fashioned jacketed soft point. Hit in the neck behind the head they aren't going anywhere but down. Bullet placement is everything.
