If you had to start all over again....
« on: October 05, 2005, 09:43:54 AM »
Ok, I realize that half the fun of Handi-holicism is the piecing together of a fabulous shooting system by collecting various parts, etc.  I'm interested in barrels for the 204 Ruger, 45-70, 450 Marlin, 12 gauge Rifled Slug..that's for now, I'm sure the fever will require more later.  I really like the looks of the laminated stocks but I realize that form follows function and whatever shoots the best is really the most beautiful.  I also love the Buffalo gun look.

My question to you is this...If you had to start brand new, what format would you start with?

I would start with the BC or Target if I wanted an iron-sighted rifle; I'd go with an ultra if I wanted the rifle for use with a scope.

Honestly i wouldn't start over.........i like the way i started. A standard handi rifle in 223 with the heavy barrel. Then the addiction set in...... I've had quite a few now and have had fun with all of them. Well except that 3 1/2" 12 gauge barrel i had with the youth synthetic stocks on it. One turkey mag through that thing was all i could take   Thne it was gone a week later.

I think I would have to start with the TDC for a shotgun and a 45-70 for a rifle.  And of course a Tracker II and a pair of smooth bore Tracker I barrels and Shorty(22") barrels in 12 and 20 and a 30-30 and a 22 Hornet and....Dang, I can't do this!

I would start the same way I did.

Get my 25-06 Ultra, put the Choate varmint/target stock set on it. Then by my 223 Handi and put the laminates from the 25-06 onto it.

Top them off with a Swift 6-18x44 for the '06 and a Bushnell 4-12x40 for the 223.

Couldn't ask for much more....cept maybe a new 204 Ruger

Well, I bought the 06 first and if I had it to do again, I would have got the 280 with lam stock.  Can't complain, have a .223 barrel on the o6 frame and its shooting inside a dime.  Just picked up a 308 ultra and think I am going to love it.  Picked up the 20 Ultra Slug with the SB-1 frame and its going well.  Just need to add the .50 muzzleloader to go with the 20....Start over....naa
have done it twice in the last 30 yrs.
