I was looking at this site,

My first thought was what is this little rifle like to shoot? Have any of you folks fired or own one?

yup Ive shot my buddies and he is working up loads for John linebaugs gun and I shot that one. I thought my buddys was real comfortalble to shoot. 480s at about 2000fps will let you know you shot something but suprisingly not much worse then a heavy loaded 4570 Another possiblity is stock design cause when I shot Johns it banged me substaintaly more. It had a cheak piece on it and it beat your jaw. But it still was nothing to be afraid of. By the way both guns would shoot under 2" at 50 yards with open sights. Theres not a gun Id feel more confident with in big bear country!

Hmmm LSI Puma with 8 rounds of .454 or this Marlin make over with 4 rounds of .50 Alaskian???

So many choices. :wink:

What do you guys think about the take-down option? Do you see this as a potental point of weakness?

I have one built on a 71 Browning by Harry McGowen. Like Lloyd said, when you get those big slugs over the 2000fps mark, you know your shooting something.

I don't know how well the Marlin would hold up as a takedown, but have heard nothing but good from the Wild West guns as far as workmanship.

When I got my co-pilot they didnt offer the 50 alaskan at that time. otherwise I would have gotton it. I like my copilot. I've had it for about 5 years (or so) and have never had a problem with the take-down feature. I've put alot of rounds (sometimes pushing the hot side, OK real hot) and never had a problem. I wouldnt have a 2nd thought about getting another one from either WWG or DRC (who I also heard good things about).

No i have not,but I am having a 510 KE built as we speak on a Win 1886:

453gr ABW SP 2323fps-5423fpe

Until that is done I will just have to use my 416-284 McPherson in Savage M99R with 26in barrel:

350gr Barnes Solid at 2400fps-4475fpe

Or my Win M1895 in 405Win with 28in barrel:
300grSP at 2450fps-4000fpe with 58.5grs of IMR 3031

510 Kodiak Express,it is in between a 50 Alaskan(2.50) and a 50/110(2.75).It has a COL of 2.68.Is is really a recreation of the 50/110,but loaded to much higher pressures.I t is made from straighten and redrawing 348Win cases.

I have a 50-110 being built on a new model 86 by Reggie Nonneman. Suppose to be done around the 1st of May.

What do you plan on using for powder?

I will use H322,W748,IMR 3031.Though IMR 4198 are H335 are also possible.I use IMR 3031 and IMR 4198 in my 416-284 McPherson and 405 Winchester.Enforcer
