I just bought 14 boxes of 50 cal 385 grain Buffalo Bullets from E-Bay for $29.00, I just couldn't pass them up. I called the factory to find out what they consider to be a good charge to put behind one but......they are all on vacation this week for hunting season [I'd sure like to work there!] So I thought that I might ask the members of the fourm if they have had any experience with them and find out what kind of loads they used. I will be shooting them out of my TC Hawken as it is the only rifle with a 1 in 48 twist [all the rest are 1 in 66] I have FF Swiss and FF and FFF Goex on hand. Any advice would be appreciated. My renegade 50 loves the 385's but deer hate 'em. I use pyrodex rs at 90 grains and FF swiss at 80. 2-3 inch groups at 75 yds. what a kick from this load however.

80-90 grains of 2F should work just fine, but you can also try 3F and don't for get to put a 'wad' under the bullet. It helps most of the time.

some of the info that I have gathered:

I shoot Hornady 410s with a MMP SUB-BASE, I also shoot a 370 Grain Maxi with
a card wad under the bullet!

My groups wint from 3-4" at 100yds down to 1 1/2 and smaller just by using
the sub-base and the card wad under the bullets. My loads are Goex, 90FFF to
115FF, out of my .50 cal. with a 1 in 30 twist.

Some of the more expensive " Veggie" wads are made from:

Vegetable fiber gasket material engineered to resist high heat & compression
and water resistant.

Or you can make your own with some heavy card stock and a Gasget [Arch]
punch.

I have had good success with the .50 cal. buffalo ball in my TC Hawken using 80 grains of 2f black power

Guys,
Thanks for the info. I can't wait to get to the range and try them out, if it would only stop rainning. I planned on using the Ox-Yoke over powder wads, I even use them under a patched round ball. I like to keep a good supply on hand [500 or 600] but I had heard that Ox-Yoke has gone into recivership so I've started to lay in a extra supply of 50's and 54's not knowing what the outcome of the company will be.

My muzzleloaders love the BB Ball-Et`s. 245 gr. .50 cal version. i shot a deer in the neck on the side, and broke the neck and cut the juggular, but it didn`t go right thru, it either ran down the neck or pancaked, not sure? Jack.

I had a T/C hawkins that loved those 385 gains slugs.1OO grains of 2ff Geox used to give me 3 inch groups at 100yards.Brian.
