"Dummy" screws on top of receiver - necessary?
« on: April 27, 2006, 02:09:57 PM »
I recently bought a Marlin 336 in .35 Rem that came with a scope mounted.  I am going to shoot silhouette matches with this rifle.  I have a match coming up and forgot to order the replacement screws from Numrich.  Does anyone know if it is safe to shoot the rifle without the screws installed? Or could I install the ones that are currently holding the scope base but they, of corse, stick up quite a ways without the base installed.   I can't leave the base on because it blocks the rear sight?

Anyone able to enlighten me on this?  Thanks in advance, Lance

Go ahead and shoot it without them.  They just keep crap from getting into the action and make it look good.  You can always get 'em and put 'em in later.

Fill them in with gun grease. Use as a permanent solution or until you get the "dummy" screws.

Thanks fellas, I shot it today and didn't have any problems its just one of those things that doesn't hurt to ask.  Sure liked that Wild west trigger and the Marbles tang sight that I hung on her!
