204 is ready to go
« on: October 11, 2005, 08:27:40 AM »
Coyotes and other varmints beware the 204 is on and ready to go. The open on fire issue has basically been eliminated with a light stoning of the barrel shelf (I had two openings but I think it was due to improperly sized brass no openings with new brass).

I have settled on two loads the 39 Sierras for PD's an long range coyotes(300+) and 35 grain bergers for normal coyote hunting both with near max charges of H4895.

As luck would have it I sighted in with the bergers and the sierras are only a hair higher @ 100 yards So i'll be keeping both in the ammo sling and if a long shot presents itself i'll swap over to the Sierra load.

While shooting this past weekend I was trying to stretch the legs of the 204 I was shooting at 2 litre pop bottles from about 350 yards (estimated, it was from the road to the back of the sand pit, far enough that you had a hard time making out the bottles without binoculars). On the first shot I shot the cap off the bottle. Normally I would have considered this a luck fringe hit, but this time I was holding the first dot right on that bottle cap :).  I managed 2 of 3 at that range (I pulled the third shot).

One question when you have worked up multiple accuracy loads how close are the POI's. Was my case fluke or does it happen more often than I think.
