I bought a knight original 50cal,  I read some good things on here and elsewhere about them,  I got it for under 200, hope that's a good deal.

Does anyone out there have any opinion on this rifle?  good and bad,

I would really like to know where to start as far as load size, bullets, etc.

what works for this rifle generally.

again thanks in advance for the help.

Mike...I broke down and bought one back in '98...after shooting flinters for over 20 years...Picked it up on closeout at Bass Pro...mine is the 22 inch barrel model...I believe this is still one of the finest inlines ever made...and would buy a new one if Knight still made it....Would like to find one with a 26 inch barrel...

Two loads are outstanding in my Knight...100 grs Goex ff (or 2-50 gr Pyrodex pellets) and the 300 gr Barnes copper bullet...I used this for the first few years....

I changed last year to the 250 T/C Shockwave and 90 grs Pyrodex RS...Sighted in 2 1/2 high at 100 yards, I'm 2 1/2 low at 150....have killed 4 deer with this load in last 2 years...shoulder shots...all dropped in their tracks...

I have 2 buddies that have the Knight Wolverine and the American Knight...they also shoot the similiar loads..One of them prefers the Pyrodex pellets, so he shoots a 250 SST Hornady and 2-50 gr Pyrodex pellets....I would bet one of these would work for you....Good Luck

I have a Knight Wolverine I got several years ago, and am very happy with it. I've had good luck shooting cast bullets such as Great Plains (385-460grn), and Hornady cast bullets, 420gr., and 80-110gr Pyrodex. I don't care much for sabots, but they are accurate; I just like throwing a heavy chunck of lead downrange.

The rifle doesn't handle hotter loads very well, I'm guessing due to both the slowish twist (1:28) with the heavier bullets and it's only a 20 or 22" barrel, so it may not be burning consistently. It does shoot 250gr sabots well with 120gr Pyrodex, though.
Life was so much simpler when I thought I knew everything...

I have a knight wolverine with the 22" bbl.  It has a 1 in 28 twist, as does yours in all likelihood.

I have found sucess with the dead center line of saboted bullets.

In my knight its a 220 grain dead center over 80 grains of triple 7 fffg loose powder.  I suspect that other dead center load combinations would work well, however this one shoots with tremendous accuracy in this gun.

Also, if yours will shoot both the 209's and the #11's, I would suggest the #11 caps for ignition, as I have found more consistency as I move away from shotgun primers.

Regards,

Smoky

A buddy shoots the same gun using 2 50 grain pyro pellets under a 300 graing Hornady XTP.  Gets about a 2" group @ 100.

Mike, I've got a knight wolverine and shoot the same load as smoky, a 220 grain dead center bullet and 80 grains of 777 powder.  Accuracy is excellent and you won't find a better bullet in my opinion.  I'll attach a picture of 2 bullets I have recovered from deer, one this year, one last year.  The bullet on the left is the above load when the deer was at around 50 yds.  The bullet on the right was 100 grains 777 and the 220 grain bullet when the deer was only at about 20 yards.  Make your own decisions.  But, I will tell you I had terrible luck with jacketed bullets.  The shot great but wouldn't release any of their energy inside the deer so the deer ran forever and ever and I didn't find any of them.  Keep this in mind when choosing your bullet.  If you have questions about the precision rifle bullets, go to www.prbullet.com  .  You should be able to find all the info you need there.  Good luck, Greg      Here are the bullets:  http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b256/gt2003/220deadcenters001.jpg
