Lubing for the 30/30 question....
« on: October 18, 2005, 06:58:30 AM »
I just bought a Lee 170gr gas check mould and want to start loading for my 30/30 - a post-64 Winchester 94. I don't have a lube sizer and am wondering if using Lee's liquid alox would work ok. I've been using it on my handgun loads with no problems and am hoping I can avoid the expense of buying a lube sizer for a while. Thanks for your help.

I've used it on several 30 calibers and it works fine.

I use it with the 160 gr Lee gas check bullets. you might want to invest in a Lee "push thru" sizer to seat the gas checks. They aren't very expensive, and the last one that I bought (many, many years ago!) came with a bottle of Liquid alox.

Bob,
Yep, alox will work on the 30-30.  I use it for velocities in excess of 2100 fps, although my 30-30 loads generally stay nearer 2000 fps.  The Lee push through sizer is good for seating checks, but you must size the entire bullet.  I have an RCBS Lube-O-Matic that I mostly use to seat the check, but let the bullets sized as cast.  Good-luck…BCB
