Ramrod holder for Huntsman
« on: August 24, 2005, 06:37:11 AM »
I have been trying to think of a way to store a full length ramrod on the Huntsman. Has anyone else had the same thoughts or have already did it? I just hate messing with the adjustable rod. I used the short rod ahead of the factory last year and had a problem when it stuck in the barrel. This is what happened; shot a doe first and reloaded for a second and the short rod would not come out of the barrel, was shooting the the Hornaday SST and the point got stuck on the rod. Then comes this nice 5x5 buck and stands in the same place I shot the doe, about 80yds. I shoot the rifle with rod in it with the hope of maybe hitting the buck. Anyone have any ideas?

i used gi cleaning rod in 2 sections on my 06 that stuck the cases.....i kept it on the barrel with girls hair bands, they are tougher than rubber bands, on my huntsman I would use a fiver glass arrowand rubber band it right down the barrel.  They sell them at the archery shop for around $3.00.  I dont think you will break them.

OK, the Sidekick and Huntsman has the worst breechplug removing tool ever dsigned and you can also throw the Ramrod in that category. I had expanding anything, andf then I tried to clean it with 10/28 threded cleaning jag and accessories like I use on my T/C`s, well they were to big to screw into the ramrod :( What size threads do these ramrods accept? Also, I have givin up loading my Sidekick at the range and cleaning with it, I just use my T/C Renegage synthetic super rod for loading her and cleaning her, much better .I still nead at least a jag that fits the Sidekick ramrod for the field. Jack.

Great point JB .Since mine is stuck in mine, until I can get it out, I will just use it like mt T/C Renegade and Hawken that have the Patent Breech, just clean the Sidekick as I would them, and the bonus is the Sidekick breechplug is stainless steel. I am still getting the nuts welded on and going to use a very good antil seize so it doesn`t lock up again :D Thanks-Jack.

What about using a full length ramrod, and letting it stick out past the muzzle a few inches? I've seen photos of old time muzzleloaders with the ramrod sticking out. It would be easier to grab too.
