Straight Bolt K98 Mauser
« on: October 17, 2005, 01:08:58 AM »
A while back I picked up a k98 mauser with a straight bolt. I was told by somebody there was no such thing as a k98 mauser with a straight bolt because all of them had turned down bolts. In the month of October sales flyer from SOG they have a "Straight Bolt" k98 8mm mauser used by the rear guard troops. #SLG-K98SB  $139.95  Don't get me wrong i'm not upset over it I just find it rather funny with so many different models and production runs going on for well over 100 years who really knows for sure all we can do is to enjoy these awesome surplus guns and we are really lucky to be a country were we can still do that too.

I get confused sometimes as to wether its "98K"  or "K98" I'm not sure if there is two distinctive models or some just don't get it right. I'll have to ask some mauser guru's and get back to you about this.

I am sure that, through the many years of production of the '98 Mausers, more were shipped with the standard straight bolt handles rather then the turned down ones.  I would say your friend is in error.

One thing about Mausers, just when you think the subject has been exhausted, another variant rears it head.  :)
