S&W .500 and T/C barrels
« on: March 02, 2003, 02:52:20 AM »
Anyone have thoughts on the S&W .500 in T/C barrels.    I have noticed that there are a lot of folks on this forum that like the heavy kickers.  Anybody have info on this caliber.

Even though a publication has listed the pressure at 40.000 VV has orderd the reamer and claims it will be a Encore only game due to saami specs at 50.000 PSI
Like like the 454 it is way too much for the contender.
I beleive SSK will only due it in the Encore for the same reason.
I would think it woud do everything and More than the 45-70

Diameter of the case is everything when it comes to calibers that the contender can handle, the .500 is way too wide to leave enough barrel and chamber steel to handle much if any pressure.  Look at the 45-70 for example, and then remove another .05 inch from whats left.
I don't see the 500, or any other 500 being safe in contender, even the blackpowder barrels out there are only for 45 caliber, not 50s...even in low pressure black powder.
