Author Topic: Difference between the Super 14 and the Hunter 14? (Read 587 times)

I was looking at some barrels on ePay and Ed's and I'm trying to figure out the difference between the Super 14 and Hunter 14 barrels. Does one come without sights and the other have a brake? Hope someone can clear this up for me. Thanks in advance for helping me to get clued in to the differences in these barrels.

Super 14 usually comes with front and rear sights.
Hunter model has the brake and no sights.

Bud is correct. The Hunter model barrels (14") are actually only 12 3/4" of rifled barrel/chamber.... the Muzzle Tamer brake makes up the balance of the length.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I've had ported barrels on rifles in the past and never really cared for them. Although I can see where it might help on calibers like the 375's or 45-70, does it help much on Contender pistol barrels in 44 Mag, 30-30 or 35 Remington?

Depends on your level of tolerance. My 7-30 Waters had a MT on it (Hunter) and although it made it very easy to handle and shoot it was not necessary. Given the choice again for that caliber I would not have one for the Waters.
Two negatives for me.......they are very loud and you will not want to have anything next to the barrel ......even back from it when you touch one off.
