That's a shame about that carrier.
Some good, fairly cheap, but usually accurate plinking ammo in either 38 special, or 357 magnum is the Winchester "Win-Clean" stuff. It burns very clean, and shoots good in most guns.
It's tough to beat for plinking, or target shooting, but it doesn't expand at all in 38 specials, and very little in 357 magnums on game. It's great for small game(especially 38's), but it'll leave you with a wounded animal if you tackle anything bigger than a coon with it.
