went to the range today to test a new load for my Handi in .223 BBL:

Winchester brass
CCI 400 small rifle primers
Sierra 50gr Blitz Bullets
24.0gr of Hodgdon H322

It was an almost perfect day for shooting with a clear sky. 62 degrees, and 5-8MPH winds. There was an occasional gust. The cold bore shot was to the left about 3/4" to the left. The rest were good averaging 1/2-3/4" Here is a 3 shot grp with the cold bore to the left:

This load was performing very well and never going above 3/4" I was a happy camper. Then I pulled of this 3/8" shot group:

I couldn't belive it. As I was looking though the scope shooting, I just saw the first hole appear to get bigger and bigger. I just had to go down and measure it. I was in love with the load now!! No doubt when I get a trigger job i will be able to pull of more of these with this load. I think I have found what my handi likes to eat the best!!

I am shooting the 22" bull barrel. Does anyone know if the 243 bull barrel shoots this good?

yup!!!! i've not had enough range time to post it yet and i just took the scope off my 243 and put it one my new springfield. BUT my 243 shoots very very well with two different loads both shooting a 55 grain bullet but one about 100 fps faster (pushing 4k).

Have you had an experience with the heavier grain bullets? Like 80gr? If so, how did they perform?

I like my .223 ultra and I will also add my .243 standard barrel shoots sub moa to :-)

Just got to shoot my new used 223 BB first time yesterday,
45 grain WW box, 3 shoots all I had time for, .376 inches
best my tired old eyes could measure. If all my Handi's
would shoot this good I'd be a happy ol' dog. Marv.

swify , i got about 1.25" to .75" (on a good day) groups with the 95 ct bullets but i haven't got to play with them much. i'm planning on trying either the 75 or the 87 grain V-max later this winter with hopes of a 750 yard groundhog load. we'll see in the next two to three months.

Yes that is a great job of shooting, and the trigger will break in after a while. Shoot lots and enjoy. I have found that most of the .223HB will shoot well. I am also a fan of the .223

Now if I can get the .308 to shoot how I need it too.

Those are some great groups! I had bought my Ultra on an impulse; waiting for another rifle on order, and knew little about .223 and even less about H&R's. Now it's by far my favorite rifle, and sub-moa is common enought at 100yds I'm looking for more challenging shots -- Like shooting offhand at moving targets to sharpen up for hunting. Funny how the Handi addiction takes hold of a person...
