What Do You Fellas Think Of Uberti Handguns?

I've fondled a few, and the quality seems really high.  I'm just playing with the notion of getting a Uberti Cattlemen model.

I've owned and used a total of 4 Ubertis.  2 were Peacemaker clones, and 2 were Remington '58 clones.  Except for a loose grip on one of the '58s, they were all well made revolvers.  The grip was easily fixed.

Thanks!  As you know, I am considering all my options for some CAS fun!  I like the fact that they don't have the xfer bar like the rugers do.  I think less is better.

Good guns

Brother has one that he shot almost exclusively for a couple of years.  Got real good with it, too!  45 ACP and 45 Colt cylinders.

When he finally decided to put he Colt cylinder in, the ACP had "peened" itself into the frame slightly.  A couple of light taps and the cylinder came free and it was dressed with a file.  Not a complaint, more like normal wear and tear.  The gun was shot a lot - and obvioulsy not cleaned - with his standard 1911 load, nothing hot.

Iron sights and minute of coke can past 75 yds.  Good shooter.

I, too, want to pick one up for the right price.  Still waiting.  Not seeing as many as I did a couple of years ago.  The Virginian Dragoon keeps me happy.  Heavy gun though.  Prices on the Uberti's were more(!?!) than a used Ruger.  Gun show guys were very proud of them when I was looking hard.

Good luck!

Not sure the going price at gun shows, but the local gun shop is a Ubertia dealer and I just picked up a 4 3/4" catleman in 45 for 349$.  That's with brass grip straps and modern blue and smokless style frame.  Very accurate and good fit and finish out of the box.  Havent printed on paper yet, but off hand can shoot straigther than me.

Most of my capandball revolvers are Uberti's and there the ones I've had the least trouble out of.  I got a Walker a little while back and it is absolutly beutiful with charcoal blued finish.

As you may know, Beretta bought Uberti out a few years ago. The first thing Beretta did was close the factory and install new CNC machining. Ubertis went from good guns to excellent guns. The overall quality has really improved on their center fire revolvers. I haven't examined any of their black powder guns since the change but I would imagin they got better too. Beretta also makes the Stampede in the Uberti factory. This is an excellent gun for the money. I bought one with a 7.5" barrel in 45 Colt. It specs out far better than my Colt SAA at a fraction the price. At the range, I don't have a problem keeping the holes in the black. My only complaint was the plastic grips so I installed a set of wood Hogues.

Stampedes do have a transfer bar but you would never know it when you squeeze the trigger. Out of the box it was a very crisp 3 lb. Other than a nostalgia thing, the transfer bar is really a good thing. It allows the six-shooter to really be a six-shooter. Only a fool would load 6 rounds in a non-transfer bar gun unless they were going to shoot them immediately.

Their very well made guns. The only thing Ruger has on them is strength. I would prefer they were made in the US but we're not all that cool anyway.

The new Uberti's that I've seen have a hammer block/safty catch on the hammer.  When you don't pull the triger and go to the first click it pops up and keeps the firing pin off the cartrige and locks the trigger.  Is pretty unobtrusive and seems like a good idea.  Anybody know how reliable it is?
