Lets get to Bassin. How many days a year are you on water?
« on: April 30, 2003, 03:21:32 PM »
While I fish tournaments, I work my regular job and write outdoor articles as well.  Unfortunately, I can't do without the regular job income, so I don't get the time on the water I really need to be on the top shelf.  Still I hold my own.  I'd say on average, I spend 45 days a year on the water.  The guys I fish against regular probably close to tripple that in most cases and some fish well over 250 days a year.

How many days do you get on the water?

On average I'd say 60-70 times a year. I fish local tournaments that are held once a week here in Pa. , and try to squeeze in a practice trip once a week. Then if I get the honey-do list finished, I can take a fish for dinner trip one day in a weekend. It's good to have an understanding wife!

I try to spend as much time on the water as possible but like you work has it's way of limiting a persons pleasures.  On the average I would say I manage to bass fish 40 to 50 times a year.  My problem is I can't find anyone to pay me to bass fish full time.  Or go hunting full time for that matter either.  Lawdog

I spend around 100 days a year fishing for bass-be it prefish, tourneys, or just plain relaxing. I am lucky as my family also enjoys fishing.....John

About 4 days to a week, out of the year anymore.

About the last half of Oct the frogs start back into some of the lakes in large amounts and the big bass come up to get them.  Big bass for us up here are 4 to 6 pounds. MN state record isn't much bigger than that.

Anyway it is cold fishing.  Right before freeze up.  The air is colder than the water, so you have to keep dipping your reel in the water to thaw it out. We back troll about casting distance off the rocky shoren line and throw spinner baits up toward the shore.  It seems the bass are there only just before dark up to dark and it lasts only about a week to 10 days. So you only get in about 1/2 hour of good fishing per day.
