looking for something pretty good but reasonably priced. I recently switched from trap to skeet and I think that would be a fun gun to use or should I stick with o/u's

i was in your shoes not all that long ago. stoeger, mossberg, and remington doubles are cheap, and they feel cheap, too.

i was about to swallow the price of a beretta 28, but i learned they are made on the 20 gauge frame. whats the point? if i have a 28, i want a true 28. graybeard had been singing the praises of huglu's, which are now imported by cz.

i looked them over online, and still wasnt sure. pictures dont always tell the whole story. then i walking into a gun store i hadnt been in before and they had several cz doubles. i handled the 12 gauge first, it was built nice. then i picked up the 28 gauge, and all i could say was wow. add to that the guy's price was about 40 cheaper than i could buy it online for (very uncommon). that was one of those times where you have to buy the gun. i did. and it is a dream. exactly what i was looking for.

if these were being imported for browning or weatherby, i am sure they would charge twice as much. i think they are the best deal running on double shotguns right now. so much so, that i will be buying another in 410 within the next 2 years. i have a few other things on my priority list now that need to be accomplished before i can even think about it.

there are alot of huglu's out there under various names. maybe the guys here can fill you in on that. check them out, i am guessing you will feel like i did about it.

The Huglu guns are really nice and a super buy for the bucks they cost. This applies to both SxS and O/U guns. Only you can decide if a SxS or an O/U is right for you. But here is a hint. If you're getting it ONLY for use on the skeet range and you like to break the most you can get an O/U. If it's just for fun and you might also use it for bird hunting then the SxS is a nice gun to have. But for breaking the most clay targets you just can't beat an O/U.

Greybeard has given you some good advice. I have both and as I use them for hunting I much prefer the SxSs. CZ and Dehaan import the Huglu from Turkey. I have a 12 ga SxS I use for waterfowl hunting, it is a Dehaan SO model. I think it is a great gun for the price.

what about the Spartans that Remington imports? Also why are o/u's considered better than sxs or is it just personal choice? :?

The Russian guns are rough and crude and not at all what a double gun is supposed to be. If you're thinking of them I'd just get a pump or semiauto and be done with it. Doubles are all about "feel" the Russian guns just do not have it.

The O/U and it's single sighting plane is a better gun for pure clay target shooting. The wider double plane of a SxS seems to help in shooting feathered game, well at least for some folks. But for some the single plane is still better. Only trying both will tell you which you are.

I like both but don't pretend that a SxS is a true clay target gun. For that I'd chose an O/U every time if breaking the maximum number of birds is the goal. If it's just for fun and you don't mind some misses then shoot what is fun.
