Range Report SSS 60 grain Aquila using Romainian 69
« on: March 01, 2003, 08:07:02 AM »

5 shot groups Here is the target middle and upper right is the SSS 60 grain Aquila at 25 yards the upper  left target is federal target for comparison so as you can see the SSS 60 grain stuff shoots well out of the Romainian 69 drop was about a inch it looks like at 25 yards and I held right on. This target I got backwards after I scanned it so it is in reverse but you can still see the groups. Scope used is a old Weaver 2 1/2 with fine cross hairs this scope is the old type that has no covers and uses a lock ring on the adjustments after you get it sighted in but it still works fine. Temperature was 35 degrees so I did not stay long to shoot and the 22 was the last one I shot so I was getting cold I am sure the groups could be improved on a warmer day and I would like to see how this stuff drops at longer ranges. Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Range Report SSS 60 grain Aquila using Roma

I just happened to be out testing the Aguila SSS 60 gr this weekend also.  I was shooting from a bench with a Marlin 39a and a lupold 3x9 scope.  Distance was 100 yards.  I shot over a Chrony and the MV averaged 898fps 6 feet from the muzzle.  I had shot a group with some Winchester x-pert ammo which grouped into 3 inches, 6 inches below the point of aim on the same target.

The Aguilas put a 5 shot, 2 inch group, 16 inches below point of aim.  They dropped 10 inches lower than the X-perts and had a better group by 1 inch.  I would have shot another group but only had 5 rounds with me.

I am thinking of useing the Aguilas for the big bore part of Cowboy Silhouette this season.  Last summer one of the guys I shoot with completed his NRA Hunter Bore Grand Slam by shooting 10 rams in a row with a ten inch Contender with a match chamber.  The average volicity from that barrel is about 920fps.

You can only hit the target if the barrel is pointed in the right direction when the bullet leaves the barrel.
