Seems like most seasons for me skinning and putting up possums netted me about the same cash that rats did, and I rarely pitched a rat just because they weren't worth much. I sold a lot of stretch rats for < $1.00 for several years, and possums brought me about the same or a bit more if I put them up.
Possums take a bit of finesse with the scraper as they seem to be just about the thinnest skinned critter I put up, but once you get the hang of it they certainly don't take much time or effort. I'd much rather gently push off some possum fat than break my back on a tough old beaver or coon. They certainly aren't as easy to put up as rats are, either.
But, for the effort they generally net me a decent return.
Also, historically it seems like I received much more for a large silver than I did a black one. Smalls and kits were worth basically nothing no matter what color they were.
Is this somewhat true for the rest of you from other regions?
