NR Frame Designation?

We're all familiar with the SB1 and SB2 frames, but what had a NR frame designation?

The prefix "NR" to the numerals of the serial number (if this is what you are referring to) would indicate a NEF manufactured in 2001. It would accept addittional barrels from the factory but would have no bearing on it being either a SB1 or SB2 reciever. Recievers are not marked either SB1 or SB2, barrels are marked as such. You must either call the factory with the entire serial number (or be knowedgeable about the differences in recievers) to accurately determine which reciever you have. A simple call to the factory/customer service is the best way....<><.... :grin:

I asked because Paul5388 had found a used Handi with this designatuion on the frame. He called customer service and they told him it was a rimfire frame, that is until he told them it was wearing a 12 guage barrel, then they changed their minds and said yes, it is a 12 guage frame. It gets curiouser and curiouser!  :roll:

Don, as far as I have been able to determine any gun, rimfire, shotgun or centerfire manufactured in a given year has an identifier (N + letter for NEF and H + letter for H&R) except some much older guns that had only one letter before the numerals in the serial number. That means a receiver with the NR prefix was manufactured in 2001 but could have been either a rimfire, shotgun, or centerfire rifle. A check of the receiver of a knowledgeable handiholc should be able to determine which it was, short of that the factory still remains the best source of info, but even the experts read from the wrong line once in a while and we all make mistakes, good luck....<><.... :grin:
