California SB 269
« on: October 12, 2005, 01:27:45 PM »
The Govenator has just signed SB 269 which establishes:

"Existing law exempts certain specified handguns from satisfying the requirements necessary for a handgun not to be classified as unsafe.
This bill would also exempt single-shot pistols with a barrel
length of not less than 6 inches and which has an overall length of
at least 101/2 inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel
are assembled."

Does this mean we can now buy T/C Contender pistols in Kalifornia?!?  :-D

Arnold said he was running for re-election. This might help him lock it up.

Oh, it's true all right! I'm just not sure if it is effective immediately or do we still have to wait. I'll have to ping my local FFL and distributor.

Now to get rid of this ridiculous "scary weapons" ban!

You know, so often if something sounds too good to be true...it probably isn't.  Hate to sound negative but little has gone our way lately...what's the catch.   :?

BUT, if it's true...I'll be the first camped-out in front of the local gun shop the day this change goes into effect.  I need a new Encore.

A buddy of mine who is into all this legislative stuff up to his eyebrows told me the new law goes into effect on Jan 1, 2006.

This is great news, especially for the sport of silhouette shooting.  There are darn few options for a shooter who wants a new gun for that sport here in California.

There is no information available on the Internet pertaining SB 269.  So far, I suppose this is word of mouth only.

Seems like the NRA website would have published on this.  I live in California and I want this to be true, but so far, I classify this as a rumor.

This is in response to Chris' question about silhouettes in Northern California.

I am not sure just how "northern" you are but maybe this will help.

Dave Pitt is running a match at Hat Creek on a regular basis.  Coney Robertson's club is shooting every month near Weaverville.

There is a monthly match at a range near the bay area.  The name of it escapes my at this time.  It is mostly for small bore and Hunter Pistol I think.  Give Harry Sharp a call at (650)-
348-1736 if you would like info.

If you are not too far north you could come down to Fresno where we shoot every month except for when the fog is real bad in the winter and in the middle of summer where your barrels will melt in the 105 degree sun.

If you are located quite north it would be a good deal to go on up to Oregon to shoot.  The club in Grants Pass is a great bunch of people and the range is quite nice.  They shoot out at the county park north of town.  We go there every year for the IHMSA West Coast Championship.  What a great match!

Chris - Silhouette in Northern Calif
« Reply #14 on: October 22, 2005, 11:53:50 AM »
I shoot at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center.  We are located southeast of Sacramento Calif.  Check our web site at www.sacvalley.org.  Directions and all pertinent data for all shooting events are listed. We no longer have the 200 meter silhouette shoots, but I run a match on the first Saturday of each month for handguns at the 500 meter rifle range.  Most of us shoot Contenders and Encores with a few XP-100 sprinkled in.  The most popular cartridge is the 7mm BR in a 20" Thompson.

We shoot Chickens at 200 meters, pigs at 300 M, Turkeys at 385 Meters and Rams at 500 meters.  We set the rams slightly off the rail so that we can knock them down with handgun velocities.

We run an informal match and it is a great time.  We start at 8:00 AM to set targets and fire at 9:00 AM.  We are usually finished by noon.

Check out the website for sure.  It is a great one.  The data regarding the signing of the SB 269 is already posted there.

randy & harold:

Thanks for the tip guys.   The Sac Valley center is about an hour from my place (Sacto).  Used to shoot in Lincoln and in Rancho but never found anyone who shot silhouette pistol.

Was also looking for guys who shoot silhouette air pistol a while back...came up dry there too.  Anyway, will plan to stop by Sac Valley soon to check out what's going on.

Thanks agaign!  ...Chris   :D
