I picked up another leupold fixed 4x33 scope that came on a interarms whitworth 375 H&H I just bought. I also have one on my henry lever 22lr. They seem to be pretty clear but I was wondering if the nikon fixed 4 x 40 scopes are better, by better I mean sharper, clearer better low light ability. Those fixed power scopes should be tough as a fence-post. 4 power does seem a little high powered for a 375.
What do you guys think

I think the Nikon only because of the 40mm objective,better light gathering ability with the larger objective.

If it were me I'd step down to 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 with a 32 MM obj lens . They are more than enough power to shoot 300 yards, and much quicker on target. The exit pupil on these is 12.8 and 11.6 MM, The human eye can only use 5-6 MM so any extra size to the obj. lens is wasted. I use a 2-7X33MM on my .375 and have never turned it above 2X while hunting. A low powered, low mounted, scope can be faster than open sights with a little practice. Given that you live in Alaska you could be in a position to need the speed much more than the extra power.

Thanks for the replies,
I think I will leave the leupold on there for now and see how I like it. I would like to use it on caribou this winter. The 375 is a little much but dead is dead.
